NPC wants Law on Withdrawal of female children from school
Chairman of the National Population Commission in Zamfara State, Alhaji Isuhu Muhammad Anka, has called on northern governors to enact laws that would prohibit parents from withdrawing their female childrenfrom schools for marriage in order to tackle teenage pregnancyand motherhood in the region. At a press conference to commemorate the World Population Day in Gusau, Anka said unless something urgent in done in the north, teenage pregnancy and motherhood would continue to be a serious problem.
“Young girls are being withdrawn from school for marriage and this exposes them to the danger of unstable marital life because teenage mothers are too young to know the implications of marriage and make informed decisions on it”, he said.
